- Agitate with a soft or medium bristle brush, working the face and any joints. Skip wire brushes, which scratch and leave rust-prone metal deposits.
- Let it dwell briefly per the product's guidance, without letting it dry on the surface.
- Rinse gently from the top down.
- Test any stronger cleaner or acid on a hidden patch first, and keep acids and bleach off adjacent metal, plants and mortar.
Two habits deserve emphasis. Acid is a real hazard on cement-based surfaces — it etches, opens the pores and dulls the finish, and it can lock in staining rather than lift it, so it's a last resort used exactly as directed.
